The Rubric
1. Characterisation 40 points
-Vocabulary: Does word choice match characters?
-Traits: Do actions/thoughts/feelings appear genuine?
-Maintain canonical growth in the characterization: Does character receive a lobotomy mid-story?
-Staying in character when dealing with plot points: Do characters act in-character, even if it complicates the plot?
2. Details 40 Points
-Character details: Are they accurate? Non-canon? Appropriate/realistic to character?
-Setting details: Is the setting realistic, given the universe? Do the non-central characters act like themselves, or at least realistically?
-Descriptive details: Is detail, well, descriptive? Does it set the mood and add texture to the story?
-Fiction Contuity: Are temporal leaps explained, clear or appropriate?
3. Plot 60 Points
-Originality: Is this story a rehash of another one? Is there a point/theme/moral to the story?
-Believability: Is this fic authentic? That is, if slash, does it reflect m-m/f-f interactions, or is it based on a heterosexual interaction superstructure? Does the plot include out-of-character behavior so extreme it cannot be covered by suspension-of-disbelief? In other words, would anyone do what they're doing in the story?
-Continuity: Does the story fit within of-screen canon? Does the story fit within its own universe, without violating that universe's rules?
-Factual Details: Does the story get canon details right? Real-world details such as historical events, place-names and so on?
-Logical progression of the storyline: Does the story make sense? Are there leaps of logic, behavior, emotional or action progression that just don't make sense?
-Staying in character when dealing with plot points: Is the writing and characterization consistent?
4. Accuracy 40 points
-Fanon vs Canon word/passage/convo in relation to canon word/passage/convo: Consistency is key here, in spirit if not in letter.
-Locations: Do locations match up with canon verse?
-Names: Are known names used, or are characters re-named? Are 'placeholder' names (those used for unnamed canon characters) realistic?
-Dates: Do canon (and where used, real-world) dates correct?
-Technology: Is canon technology used appropriately, at least to the point of canon wheren the story is placed? Is new technology appropriate to the universe? (What I mean here refers to stories that were not in violation of canon when they were written, but may now violate canon as the show progresses.)
-Maintain canonical growth in the characterization
5. Execution 40 Points
-Grammar: Is the story proofread for typographical errors? Is good basic grammar used?
-Mechanics: Beyond basic grammar, is the writing fluid and coherent? Are there words that are overused? Cliched writing conventions?
-Story structure: Does the story have a structure? Is that style used consistently?
-Style: Does the writing style fit the story content? Does the style interfere with the story itself?
For a Grand Total of 220 Points.
